The House of Russian-Korean Friendship, built on the border with North Korea in Primorye on the eve of North Korean leader Kim Il-sung's visit to the USSR, was restored in anticipation of the fourth anniversary of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's visit to Russia, as well as in honor of the 111th anniversary of the birth of the country's founder, Kim Il-sung, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' representative office in Vladivostok reported.
On April 20, Ambassador A.P. Brovarets, DPRK Consul General Zo Sek Chor, Deputy Chairman of the Primorsky Krai Legislative Assembly D. Tekiev, President of the Primorsky Krai Chamber of Commerce and Industry B. Stupnitsky, Vice Mayor of Vladivostok A. Stegniy, and Head of the International Cooperation Agency A. Starichkov took part in the opening ceremony of the restored Russian-Korean Friendship House in the urban-type settlement of Khasan, at the junction of three borders – Russia, the DPRK, and China.
The ceremony is timed to coincide with the upcoming fourth anniversary of Kim Jong-un's visit to Russia, as well as the recent birthday of Kim Il-sung.
Cosmetic work was carried out, the façade group was updated, plastic memorial plaques were replaced with marble ones, and paving stones were installed in front of the entrance.
The House of Russian-Korean Friendship was built on the eve of Kim Il Sung's visit in 1986. In 2016, the building was restored following a fire that destroyed it in 2015.
Kim Il Sung was born on April 15, 1912. Over the past weekend, numerous events were held in the DPRK to commemorate the 111th anniversary of the birth of the country's founder.
On April 24, 2019, Kim Jong-un arrived in Primorye and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Vladivostok. This was the first contact between the two leaders and Kim Jong-un's first trip to Russia since coming to power in 2011. During the visit, the DPRK leader also laid a wreath at the S-56 submarine at the "Military Glory of the Pacific Fleet" memorial complex in Vladivostok, dined at the Lesnaya Zaimka restaurant, met with regional government representatives, and visited the Russian-Korean Friendship House, built on the eve of Kim Il-sung's visit in 1986.
