National Geographic Traveler UK magazine included Karelia among the top 10 "hidden gems of Europe" for ecotourism. Kizhi, Valaam, and the network of national parks received special mention. In 2025, the region was visited by over 1,1 million tourists, including approximately 90 foreigners.
